Seeking the Saxon from Lincoln to the Fens
Lorna Lincoln.
For the past 15 years Lorna Lincoln has been searching out and recording our Saxon heritage in churches around Lincolnshire. Frequently modified over the centuries to meet changing conditions, what was built in the early churches can still be found-and is sometimes still in use as it was in the early centuries after Christianity reached these shores. Lorna Lincoln has searched 20 churches, from 3 in Lincoln itself to Peakirk and Wittering just over the county border. This book kindles a love of Saxon architecture and helps to find these sometimes half-hidden remains
Crime and Criminals in Victorian Lincolnshire
Adrian Gray
A fascinating insight into the grisly world of Victorian crime, which considers murder, thieves and robbers, fraud, poaching, crimes of passion, drunkenness and political riot. The twelve chapters conclude with a general review of police and punishment in the period. Illustrated with many contemporary broadsides and woodcuts.
